One very interesting update this year is for those who applied back in 2024. In this article, I am going to share everything you need to know—from exact dates and fees to the exam pattern and qualifying marks. So, grab a cup of tea and read this carefully before you head over to the portal to apply.

- Maximum Age: The upper age limit is set at 40 years.
Quick Note: If you belong to reserved categories like SC, ST, OBC, or if you are a female candidate, you will receive standard age relaxation as per Jharkhand state government rules. Please check the official PDF for exact relaxation years.
Vacancy Details & What JTET Actually Is
A lot of freshers get confused and think JTET itself is a job vacancy. Let me clear that up! The Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test is an essential qualifying exam. It does not directly give you a job, but it acts as a permanent license. Once you pass the JTET, you become officially eligible to apply for any upcoming Primary (Class 1-5) or Upper Primary (Class 6-8) teacher vacancies released by the Jharkhand Government.
📚 Educational Qualifications Required
To sit for this eligibility test, you need specific teaching diplomas or degrees from recognized universities:
- For Primary Level (Class 1 to 5): You need to have passed your 12th standard (Intermediate) along with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed / JBT / D.Ed).
- For Upper Primary Level (Class 6 to 8): You must hold a Graduation degree in any stream along with a B.Ed degree or a 2-year D.El.Ed.
- Final year students pursuing their teaching degree/diploma can also apply, provided they meet the conditions mentioned in the full brochure.
Expected Salary Structure After Becoming a Teacher
Since JTET is a qualifying exam, you don't get a salary just for passing it. However, once you clear the upcoming Jharkhand teacher recruitment exams using your JTET certificate, the pay scale is fantastic. Primary teachers usually start at a basic pay of around ₹25,500 to ₹29,200 (Level 4/5), while Upper Primary teachers start around ₹35,400 to ₹44,900 (Level 6/7). Along with DA, HRA, and medical allowances, the in-hand salary easily crosses ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 for fresh joiners.
Selection Process & Exam Pattern
The JAC conducts the JTET entirely offline using an OMR sheet. Here are the main points you need to remember about the exam pattern:
- The exam is divided into two phases: Paper 1 (for teaching classes 1-5) and Paper 2 (for teaching classes 6-8).
- You will get exactly 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the paper.
- All questions will be multiple-choice (Objective type). Primary level questions will match a 10th-grade difficulty, while Upper Primary questions will go up to the 12th-grade level.
- Huge Relief: There is absolutely NO negative marking for wrong answers! So, attempt every single question on that OMR sheet.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
To get your JTET certificate, you must score a minimum percentage depending on your category:
- General (UR) / EWS: 60%
- OBC (List-1) & OBC (List-2): 55%
- SC / ST / PWD / Primitive Tribe: 52%
